Privacy Policy
What we collect, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do about it. Written to be read rather than to be survived.
We collect the contact details you give us when you enquire, the material you send us during a project, and ordinary analytics about how this site is used. We use it to quote, to do the work, and to invoice.
We use Google Analytics and Google Ads remarketing, so you may see our ads elsewhere after visiting. We never sell your information. You can ask us what we hold, ask us to fix or delete it, and complain if we get it wrong.
Who we are
Enhance Industries Pty Ltd (ABN 78 165 968 392) trades as Enhance Industries. We are a web design and search marketing agency based on the Gold Coast, Queensland. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean that company, and “you” means anyone who visits this website, enquires with us, or engages us for work.
We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. We do that whether or not the Act strictly requires it of a business our size, because our clients trust us with their own customers’ information and that is the standard the work deserves.
What this policy covers
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we give it to, and how you can get at it or correct it. It covers this website and the way we deal with enquiries, clients and suppliers.
It does not cover the websites we build for our clients. When you use a site we have built for someone else, that business is responsible for your information, under their own privacy policy. Where we operate or maintain a client’s site, we act on that client’s instructions and handle any personal information on the site as their service provider, not as its owner.
The information we collect
Most of what we hold is ordinary business contact information. Specifically:
- When you enquire. Your name, email address, phone number, business name, website address, and whatever you choose to tell us about your project in the message field.
- When you become a client. Billing and contact details, the material you send us for the project (which may include photographs of people, staff biographies, testimonials and customer records), and login credentials for systems we need to work on. We ask you not to send us more personal information than the job actually requires.
- When you visit this website. Technical information your browser sends: IP address, browser and device type, the pages you viewed, how long you stayed, and the site or search that referred you.
- When you call us. Your phone number and a note of what the call was about.
We do not collect sensitive information (such as health information, or information about your race, political opinions, religion or sexuality) unless you volunteer it as part of a project brief and it is necessary for the work. We would rather you did not.
You can deal with us anonymously or under a pseudonym if you are only asking a general question. We cannot usefully quote or deliver a project that way.
How we collect it
We collect most information directly from you: through the enquiry form on this site, by phone, by email, in meetings, or in the files you send us during a project.
Sometimes we collect information about you from someone else – for example, if a client gives us a staff member’s contact details so we can arrange a photograph, or if a colleague refers you to us. If we hold information about you that we did not get from you, and you ask, we will tell you how we came by it.
Why we collect and use it
We use personal information to do the things you would expect:
- to answer your enquiry and prepare a quote;
- to design, build, host, support and market the websites we are engaged to work on;
- to invoice you and keep our accounts;
- to keep in touch with clients about work in progress;
- to understand how this website is used, so we can improve it;
- to meet our obligations under Australian law.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not trade in it.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
This website uses cookies and similar technologies. A cookie is a small file your browser stores; it lets a site remember things between pages and lets us count visits.
- Necessary cookies make the site work – keeping your place, and preventing abuse of the enquiry form.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read, how people arrive, and where they give up. This tells us about patterns across visitors, not about you personally.
- Advertising. We advertise through Google Ads, and we use remarketing – which means that if you visit this site, you may later see our ads on other websites. Google does this using cookies and its own identifiers.
You can control this. Browsers let you block or delete cookies; Google provides opt-outs at adssettings.google.com and a Google Analytics opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Blocking cookies will not stop you using this site, though some things may behave oddly.
Who we disclose information to
We give personal information to other parties only where it is needed to run the business or to do the work you have asked for:
- Our team. Including contractors and specialists who work with us on projects. They are bound to keep client material confidential and to use it only for the work.
- Service providers. Hosting and email providers, website and advertising platforms (such as Google, WordPress and Shopify), analytics providers, payment processors and our accountants.
- Where the law requires it, or where we need to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.
We do not disclose your information to anyone else for their own marketing purposes.
Sending information overseas
Some of the services we rely on store data outside Australia. Google, in particular, processes analytics and advertising data on servers in the United States and elsewhere. Website and email hosting may also be located overseas depending on the provider used for a given project.
Where we disclose personal information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles. You should be aware that once information is held overseas, Australian privacy law may be harder to enforce against the party holding it.
Direct marketing
If you enquire with us or become a client, we may occasionally contact you about our services. Every marketing email we send includes a working unsubscribe link, as the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) requires, and we act on unsubscribe requests promptly.
You can opt out at any time by using that link or by telling us on the phone. Opting out of marketing does not stop us sending you the messages we need to send about work in progress or an unpaid invoice.
Keeping information secure
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access or disclosure. In practice that means access limited to the people who need it, multi-factor authentication on the accounts that support it, encrypted connections, kept-current software, and credentials stored in a password manager rather than in email or a spreadsheet.
No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise. If you send us credentials for your own systems, change them when the work is finished.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiries for about two years, since people often come back to a quote later. Client records, project files and correspondence are kept for seven years after the engagement ends, which is what our tax and record-keeping obligations require. After that we delete or de-identify what we hold, unless we are required to keep it for longer.
If you would like us to delete something sooner, ask, and we will unless we are required to keep it.
Data breaches
If personal information we hold is lost or disclosed without authorisation, and it is likely to result in serious harm, we will contain it, assess it, and notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires. Where a breach affects a client’s site or data, we will tell that client promptly so they can meet their own obligations.
Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you and ask for a copy. You can also ask us to correct anything that is wrong, out of date or incomplete.
Contact us using the details below. We will ask for enough information to be confident of who you are, and we will respond within 30 days. Access is free; if a request takes substantial work to fulfil we will tell you what it will cost before we start. If we refuse access or a correction – which is uncommon, and only where the law permits – we will tell you why in writing and how to complain about it.
Making a complaint
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, tell us first. Contact us using the details below with enough detail to investigate, and we will acknowledge your complaint within five business days and give you a written response within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle it, you can take the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner: oaic.gov.au, or 1300 363 992.
Other websites
This site links to other websites, including our clients’ sites and third-party tools. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices. Read their policies before giving them your information.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy from time to time to keep it accurate. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last changed at the top. If we make a change that materially affects how we handle information we already hold about you, we will take reasonable steps to tell you.
